Totally technicolor and wildly cheerful, Convolvulus tricolor ‘Blue Ensign’ brings a blast of royal blue to the garden with 2.5-inch morning glory-like blooms and flashy white-and-gold starburst centers. Each flower looks as though someone turned the saturation all the way up—and then added a tiny spotlight in the middle.
This compact Bush Morning Glory grows about 12–18 inches tall and can spread much wider, creating a low, colorful sweep rather than a climbing vine. Use it along sunny paths, at the front of a border, spilling from containers, or brightening steps and patios where those vivid blue faces can be enjoyed up close.
The color is especially electric beside white, yellow, silver, orange, or chartreuse companions. Flowers continue through summer, opening in bright conditions and turning a modest plant into a remarkably high-energy display. Its broad, spreading habit can also knit together the bases of taller annuals without swallowing them.
Give ‘Blue Ensign’ sun and enough room to show off its low, outward-moving shape. Fast, floriferous, and capable of making even a quick walk past the garden feel like a small celebration, it is pure instant mood enhancement. Explore more annuals.
